Obituary of Martin Eric Bearscove

Martin Eric “Bear” Bearscove died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep in Spanaway, Washington on June 22, 2019, at the age of 74. Eric is survived by his wife Pamela, his children, Jon (wife, Joy) of Burien, Washington, Ruth Orozco, (husband, Simon) of Puyallup, Washington, and Kristian (wife, Sophia) of Hellam, Pennsylvania, and his three grandchildren, Sophia and Anneli Orozco, and Theodore Bearscove. Eric was born on December 24, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland to Florenz Inez Johansen and Karl Olaf Bearscove. He felt privileged to be the son of an Army major, and his childhood was spent in various places around the world, most memorably in Denmark and Spain. After returning wounded from his Army service in Vietnam, he married and had three children. After moving to western Washington to be nearer to his father, Eric began working for the Renton, Seattle, and Auburn Police Departments as a police officer, where he became known for an unusual talent in breaking up bar fights. He retired after a total police service of twenty-four years. He married Pamela Lanway in April 2002. His children remember him as a strong, smart, and humorous father who encouraged them to strive for independence, and to pursue their goals. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and was delighted at the recent addition of a grandson who would carry on the Bearscove name. Eric was accomplished at woodworking, archery, and teaching, and often spent time with youth at the local schools as part of the community outreach programs of the police departments such as Hug-a-Tree. He was a dedicated man who loved young people and who was passionate about teaching them the sport and the safe handling of guns. He loved spending time with the Boy Scouts of America teaching Black Powder classes at Scout Camp. He was known for his love of his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and would spend a lot of time making his bike shine. Eric loved having the shiniest bike, but also spent time making sure his home and yard were the best looking on the block. He will be laid to rest at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent with full military honors at 18600 SE 240th St. Kent, WA 98402 at 2:30 pm.
