Obituary of Charles T. Brown

Master Chief Petty Officer Charles T. Brown, USN retired, passed away June 26, 2018 in Puyallup, WA. He was born January 22, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA to Cortez and Mary Brown (Paterson). He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, after attending 16 different schools in Rhode Island, Texas, Louisiana, California, the Marianas and the Marshall Islands. He attended the University of WA on the Korean War GI Bill after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then enlisted in the Navy, serving at Pacific Fleet Hqtrs, Pacific Naval Air Force Hqtrs, commissioning crew USS America and two joint service tours with the Army and one tour with the Air Force. He served in Japan as Bureau Chief for Pacific Stars and Stripes; Chief Announcer for the Far East Radio Network, station manager of AFRTS Asmara, Ethiopia; and two tours on the staff of the Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic (NATO). His many decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon, two Joint Service Commendations, Air Force Commendation, Army Commendation, two Army unit citations, multiple Good Conduct awards and Vietnam campaign medal with four battle stars. Upon retirement, he obtained his degree from the College of Santa Fe and worked as an RN in California, Nevada, Arkansas and Washington. He is survived by 1 son, 2 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
